Lehua's bowl of pasta salad sat between her and Malani, as well as the bowl of freshly made poi, along with poke' and pulehu meat.
Kimo sat at the head of the table and gave the pule mahalo for all the land and sea provided. There was a minute or so of silence as everyone partook of the delectable meal. All of the three noticed when the drinks were brought out. Beers for Kimo and Lehua, and iced water for Malani."Dad, Malani, and I got engaged today," Lehua smiled at Malani, affectionately rubbing his back.
"No surprise," Kimo laughed. "I was wondering when,"
"As soon as we get our license, we want to ask Kumu Lahela to perform the ceremony," Lehua said.
"What do you think, Malani?" Kimo asked.
"What can you say, you know? Once Lehua puts her mind to something, that's it," Malani lifted his glass in a toast.

In the shower, Malani soaped and washed Lehua's body while they conversed about getting married. "The good thing is, I can put you and my father on my insurance. You know next of kin stuff, right? You guys will be taken care of,"
Malani stood up and ensured that he and Lehua were looking at one another. "What's going on? You said when you got home that you were waiting for your unit to mobilize? What does that mean?"
"We have to be prepared for all possibilities, and the thing with our insurance is one of them," Lehua said. "There's no reason to get upset about it. I mean, it is upsetting, but that comes with the job,"
Malani showered off the soap and stood there holding the spigot. "Are you intending to die?"
"You served! You know how this works; why are you being so insecure and shit all of a sudden?" Lehuaneeded clarificationd.
"Let's just say this is a long engagement and that the wedding will be official when you get back," Malani said while stepping out of the shower and heading to the bedroom.
