Hawaii is an ancient place. So many people have lived - and died - here. With such a rich, cultural history, chances are that, in our small community, at least one person in nearly every household has had some kind of supernatural "chicken skin" occurrence. Welcome to Ghosts Next Door, a collection of ghost stories and other thoughts about and around the Mysteries of Hawaii.

100 Ghost Stories Counting Down to Halloween! 90 Nights Left! "Menehune watch"
I hosted a night of 13 Candles with 13 Ghost Stories at a beachfront estate just off Kalaniana'ole highway. The evening was very interesting as all participants shared that they could feel a presence or see shadows just around the corner. At the end of the evening, the owner of the estate shared that there were Menehune that haunted the estate. As she proceeded to relay her experiences, I noticed a child just inside the living room. The little one sat huddled beneath a tall end table next to a couch, watching and listening carefully. As I got a better look at the child, I realized that it wasn’t a child at all. It was fully proportioned adult female but only three feet tall. I suppose it saw the look of realization on my face because it got on all fours and crawled across the living room floor and vanished before it reached it’s destination. I said nothing but in my mind I offered a greeting of aloha. Afterwards, the hostess of the estate brought out a box of chocolate ice cream bars and offered them to everyone. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their treat but for mine, I unwrapped it and deftly placed it within the confines of an overgrown potted plant. I knew that the Menehune were watching and since I had no access to any kind of mai'a (banana), I hoped that they would accept my gift of a chocolate ice cream bar instead.
